If anyone is intrested you can sign up to the CTE ( community test environment )

you need to own bf4 and have premium, it allows you to test new patches / weapons etc.

I would have, but it's 15GB, don't have enough room on my second SSD for it

I tried it.

Server are VERY laggy.

Users ping up to and over 400ms ... So not much fun to play.
Currently only 1 map, the resort.

Uninstalled it yesterday.

they added more maps and more serevrs , it depends were you play.

the server i was on earlier has several different maps and no one with a ping over 150 .

well after playing a few hours on various different maps the game play is a lot smoother , it looks a lot better , there is fps drops on some maps during levelution but thats due to the test environment

Good to know... I ll let it level off a bit before going back.
Maybe they need a "burn in" period. ?

even if you dont want to play its worth looking threw the CTE forums, there is lots of feedback bouncing between players & dice to try fix a lot of the issues , as well as many explanations as to how the game works and why its so broken for many players.

there is a new patch due out within 24 / 48 hours were there making huge changes to settings / rates across the board.

ATM high ping + shitty internet = very crappy game experience, it is coming together slowly , it'll never be completely fixed ( bf3 is still broke in places ) but to get it playable for the masses will be great.

patch days on CTE

Quote: Today we will patch both server and client on the CTE for the second time! This will mean some server downtime. You will also have to update your CTE client in Origin to join servers once they are up again. PATCH CONTENTS This patch includes:

Hi-Frequency Network Update client option You now have the option to turn off or lower the amount of “tickrate” your internet connection can handle – everyone with constant packetloss (due to low bandwidth) on the current CTE should try the options and make sure it works properly. The current default is “HIGH” so everyone else can just ignore this one Smile.
Dampened explosive camera shake (give us feedback on everything from grenades to levolution shakes)
Possible fix for PC chat delay
New maps: Operation Metro 2014, Wave Breaker (enabled later)
Hainan Resort: Under-terrain exploit fix
Some other tweaks too small to mention

WHAT ARE WE TESTING? We need to make sure the “tickrate” is still working and engagements keep on being improved (as reported by the majority). Also we need to make sure the option works – turning it off or on a different setting actually helps players with low bandwidths.

Server tick rate improved from 10hz to 30hz – Leads to a smoother and more responsive network experience
High Frequency Network Update option – Customize your tick rate based on your own hardware specs
Customize ADS sensitivity – Customize the sensitivity of individual optic zooms independently of hip fire sensitivity
Screen shake from explosions and other environmental hazards reduced
Chat delay fixed
Terrain exploits fixed
Character collision improved

'High Frequency Network Update option – Customize your tick rate based on your own hardware specs'

Wait on. How do hardware specs come into this? You're reporting positional data and not much more to the server so the only thing in question is your network connection. Am I missing something obvious?
Also, variable tick rates don't make a level playing field, and I reckon will make it harder to catch hackers. Again, am I missing something obvious? Why are they going down this variable route, and will there be an option for servers to have fixed tick rates?

Also - 30? Sad

More information from the server = more information to be calculated. Before your cpu was updating every single thing on the server 10 times a second. now its calculating that shit 30 times a second. Thats part of the reason why csgo is so cpu heavy. 128 tick = a lot of cpu pressure. If csgo would use a different model than hitscan to reg hits it would be even worse for the cpu since all the projectiles have to be updated. With hitscan its just a matter of hit or no hit.
They make it variable so the people with low end pc's can still play the game. If your cpu isnt strong enough for 30 tick you'll have a problem. Also if 30 tick is too much for your internet connection you will experience large amounts of stutter and lag. Awful to play on.
My internet connection for example is not strong enough for 128 tick servers on csgo. as soon as the playercount goes over about 12 i get a lot of choke (= my internet is too slow to keep up to the servers standpoint and it will lag every 30 secs or so).

How low hardware are we talking though? The minimum spec I've seen really ought to be able to cope. If it can't cope with the server data surely the graphics would be pushing it anyway... And surely the server data won't be massively over what BF2 was pushing anyway?
Dunno, I just can't see that being it.

thats it. Were talking minimum requirements. You cant expect the ideal user. Never. Theres always some system thats not compatible. Also 30hz is a nice mid-way to keep current box setups without having to invest too heavily into new server hardware. Remember, more pure cpu load means the possibility of creating a bottleneck for the data your gpu delivers rises.. also the difference between 10 and 30 tick is fucking huge. Thats 3 times the tick. for a beginning thats the right step and more than enough..

That's what I would have expected. But also, surely there really can't be that much data? Be interested in that post you mentioned.

just search 'High Frequency Network Update' ( minus the ' ) in the CTE forums and have a read threw the feedback from some of the guys helps you to better ubstand whats happening within the game and why this setting 9 along with other tweaks by dice 0 are helping the game to be more playable.

still early days but i notice a huge improvement in the game now since patch #2

Patch 3

Quote:PATCH DAY
Today we will patch both server and client on the CTE for the third time! This will mean some server downtime. You will also have to update your CTE client in Origin to join servers once they are up again.

PATCH CONTENTS
This patch includes:

Changed the FrameHistoryTime from 1.5s to 1.0s
This value is used in determining how much “slack” the server allows a client with packetloss to have. With this number lowered a bit to match the 30hz server send frequency – we should see even less deaths behind cover.
Deathshield fix
The Deathshield fix was not part of the CTE environment yet – now it is.
Obliteration Competitive mode
Added support for the Obliteration small competitive mode (servers coming)
Operation Metro 2014 exploit fix
PC-Client stability improvement
High Altitude Jet fix
A fix for the much reported jet altitude bug is in this patch (server side fix) as well.

WHAT ARE WE TESTING?
Making sure the new FrameHistoryTime value works as indended and doesn’t affect the game in a negative way and improves the engagements even further. We also need to confirm that the Deathshield problem is gone (ragdolls stop grenades and other projectiles from reaching their target).

They have FrameHistoryTime at 1,5 SECONDS and wonder why you die behind corners? *ultimatefacepalm*
In csgo that is a var the client can set for himself - standard at 0.5 but since it simply isnt accurate people set it to 0,02 - the lowest value for that..
The devs are so derpy..
Basically the client of the guy that shoots you could see your position 1.5 seconds ago. Thats ages is a fast paced fps...

I'm gonna regret this once I throw my PC through my window, but I'm gonna install this and give it a go. If I have to delete BF4 to do it, so be it.
