So looks like i need to replace the GFX card for the other Pc in order for my son to carry on playing especially the newer games.

Im considering giving him my 4GB 290x and buying myself a new one maybe the 8Gb 390x

Been having a look round and as always i get lost with all the mumbo jumbo and benchmarks BS reviews.

So What do ya think I should go for  390x  or wait out for the new 480/490 's,

And no sam i do not want a 1070/1080  i dont have £6/800 to spend on a new card and not a nvidia fan lol

if u want r9 390x then buy one, its good card, lol even my r9 290 can max out ANY game on FHD monitor, soo r9 390x do even better or u can even crossfire them with r9 290x bcoz its same chipset

new rx480 is better than r9 390x , but not alot, its use less power, has better VR support and better DX12 support, bal bla bla something else+ its crossfire realy good- two rx480 do better than single 1080 for less money

TBH not assed about VR , it doesn't interest me and I will never use it.

I could buy a 8GB 390x for £325 to £450 ( depending on model/name ) which basically doubles my ram and has full dx12 support and is VR supported rather than partial in 290x

RX 480 is cheaper and runs at basically the same as the 390x according to most benchmark reviews and yes has the advantage of CF and 2 are benched better than the 1070/80's

I just wonder whether its better to just grab the 480 for the other pooter or upgrade mine,  If i upgrade whether to go with the 390x or wait.

Im a software freak, hardware gives me a headache and i perfer to get opinions of many rather than have a lucky guess Tongue

heres one of many Reviews ive looked at  Rolleyes

What size monitor are you on?

I know you're running 3, but do you play on 3 or just 1?

I'm also thinking about my next move as I can pick up another 290X that is watercooled for £130. My only problem is to do so, I have to run them both at 100% fan speed. You guys have only ever heard the single 290X at 70%! Also power draw might be an issues for my ageing 620W PSU.

My alternative is to wait until September, sell my 290X for let's say £100 and then buy two 480's. nVidia is still a non option as I have three monitors of different sizes and resolutions (Unless they have enabled this ability?).

I get 42fps in Battlefield 1 at 5038x1080 but can't stream it for shit without going from Ultra to Low settings.

TBH i could just stay with my 290X  but as the other pc needs a new card i seriously considering upgrading mine.

Not sure i want to run 2 cards though which is why im considering the 390 / x ( no real diff between them ) Or holding out and seeing what the 490 will offer, there is some talk of the RX 490 possibly being a dual-GPU card and matching the 1080

I'd honestly wait until the release of the AMD flagship, then get the 390X. The 390X isn't that big of an upgrade over the 290X but it will be a lot cheaper than it is now, be a damn good card and last you a good while, all while being a single GPU card.

I have the 390X, It's a really good card but it's pretty bulky so you might want to make sure you have space for it in your tower!

Performance wise it's run everything I've asked it to with ease, I can hit 90fps on BF4 in ultra no problems. It runs Arma 3 pretty well. I think the 1080 will outstrip it in almost every regard, and alot of games seem to be more optimised to Nvidia but your call really.
